is the new york state park stargazing permit worth it?
i am considering it as an option to escape the light pollution of new york city. the seestar is portable and as long as i have a way to get to the park i can easily bring it along with me.
what are the best stargazing spots in or near queens, new york?
i am trying to get away from light pollution or cars that i frequently have to move the seestar out of the way of. i know new york city is one of the worst places for stargazing but im sure people have found some nice workarounds for the bright bustle of the city.
Serious question about Sirius A & B ?
anyone been able to show Sirius B either protruding from the light of Sirius A or better yet been able to separate them? Would be interest if you would share your experience and specs. I would suspect anyone who has tried to image both realize their angular separation on the celestial sphere is currently close to 11 arc seconds

Why is my S30 off 45 degrees to the right?
I recalibrated the S30 and told it to find the moon. It was 45 degrees off to the right. Height was 10degrees low. I can then manually find the moon. Any ideas?
More control for scientific data acquisition
Hi, the Seestar devices are also nice for scientific measurements. Are you already thinking about providing a module with more control over the acquisition parameters? For the photometry of brighter stars, for example, a free adjustment of gain and exposure time of the subframes would be interesting. Cheers Christoph
VOG/Lava Ash and Gasses Photo Effects?
Does lava ash and gasses give a red tint to pictures? Was running the light pollution filter on the Sombrero Galaxy and got blotchy red like a scattered nebula.
How best to estimate position while planning?
I have a smallish window to the sky. My property is lined with trees. So my horizon is 30 degrees or so in all directions. It is worse to the west because at this time of year I set up near the western edge of my property to take advantage of the dark skies eastward. So in reality, my horizon to the west is closer to 75-85 degrees. While the planner will tell me how high an object will be at a given time, I'm struggling to understand how to tell where exactly in the sky the object will be. I'm more familiar with the Celestron SkyPortal in which you can adjust the time to see what the sky will look like at a given time. Does the Seestar planner have that capability? Or maybe I just need to flip back and forth between the apps? How do you all navigate this situation?
