to me lum.Neo is cheating/no skill /hollow win
For a lot of photographers , especially people like me who actually understand imaging, stacking, calibration, optics, and the craft , tools like Luminar Neo can feel like they’re skipping the skill and jumping straight to the “wow” result.
Why Luminar feels like “cheating”
AI automation replaces decisions you’d normally make yourself.
Sky replacement can create scenes that never existed.
Relight AI can completely change the mood of a photo.
GenErase removes objects with zero effort.
Luminar Neo’s AI tools can:
Invent detail
Shift colours
Add fake structure
Over-sharpen star fields
Create halos
Misrepresents data
That’s why most serious imagers stick to:
PixInsight
AstroPixelProcessor
Siril
Photoshop (manual, controlled edits)
Because those tools respect the data.
So is it cheating?
It depends on your intent.
Is Luminar “cheating”?
Documenting reality Yes it alters the truth
Creative photography No it’s just a tool
Astrophotography Mostly yes it fabricates data
Portrait/landscape art | No it’s a stylistic choice
My honest take
Given my astrophotography background, my engineering mindset, and my obsession with doing things properly, Luminar Neo will always feel like cheating because it bypasses the craft i value.
And that’s completely valid.
But for casual shooters or creative artists? It’s a shortcut, not a sin.
