Hi everyone,

I recorded last night’s lunar eclipse from New Caledonia with my Seestar S50 using the timelapse mode.

During the whole observation I was monitoring the image on my iPad, and the Moon always appeared centered on the screen. When the Moon turned red during totality, I manually adjusted the gain and exposure and re-centered the Moon to make sure it stayed in the middle of the frame.

At one point, when the Moon became very dark, the Seestar temporarily lost it. After increasing the gain, the Moon became visible again and I re-centered it.

However, when I look at the final timelapse video, the Moon is clearly shifted and even partially out of the frame during the red phase. This confuses me because I clearly remember that the Moon was perfectly centered on my screen at that moment (see the attached images).

To help explain the situation, I am attaching two images:

• two frames from the recording where the Moon appears centered

• one frame from the red phase where the Moon appears shifted

My question is:

Is it possible that the Seestar processes or re-aligns frames when generating the timelapse and changes the framing?

I would really appreciate your insights if you have experienced something similar with the Seestar S50.
