Is Astroimg an astronomy website?

Posted at

I am so tired to see user advertising "their" image while obviously using generative AI tools.... Sometimes even trying to hide/deny it! I am fine with everyone having fun and all and I will not debate this here, but I think that astronomy is a science and should be treated as such , meaning that the integrity of the data should be kept in a trustworthy manner.

If this website is about astronomy, I think that ZWO should set rules as unreal image will

  1. Set false expectations from beginners (thus creating frustrated users and long term the generalization of generative AI on this website to try to mimic the new "normal")

  2. Spreads misinformation. Beginners will not learn how DSOs look like.

If you (ZWO) do not want to ban the usage of generative AI, could you at least implement that any usage of generative AI should be clearly labeled in the title so everyone knows it is not a real image? And also make another section for AI images, so astronomy novice will less be influenced??

I feel that if you do not take action, the future of this website will be mostly generative AI images from casual people looking for quick gratification, while astronomy users will flee to interact with like minded people elsewhere.
