How should I interpret the seemingly inconsistent angular deviations shown during polar alignment?

As you can see in the attached image, I often find myself in a situation where, at the start—before running “get polar align”—the tilt angle correctly matches the 44° of my latitude. But when I perform the polar alignment, I often get readings that deviate from this. It almost seems as though the angle indicated by the vertical arrow is at odds with the axis tilt angle. For example, in the photo, the vertical alignment is 0.0°, but the angle is 46° instead of 44°.

Note that I have always used “refresh deviation” every time, as I know that these numbers otherwise depend on the internal gyroscope and not on plate solving.
