This image captures a delicate portion of the vast and intricate Vela Supernova Remnant, the expanding debris field left behind by a massive star that ended its life in a spectacular explosion approximately 11,000–12,000 years ago. Located roughly 800 light-years away in the southern constellation Vela, this remnant spans an enormous area of sky, stretching over several degrees.
