Celebrating the Summer Solstice in the northern hemisphere

发布于

Happy Summer Solstice (tomorrow)!

Neolithic peoples and other ancient cultures celebrated the solstice for many reasons, mostly agrarian.

Some worshipped the sun, some used it to mark the time between planting and harvest, some marked it as a new year.

But we northern Astrophotographers celebrate for a slightly different reason. Here we mark it as the turning point. We have made it through the long days, and short nights! Every night from here on gets longer and darker (for some).

Congratulations to my northern hemisphere brothers and sisters! To my southern friends- I’m sorry 😂

Clear skies!
