On June 12, the "All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae" (ASAS-SN) project at Ohio State University in the United States first detected this nova, with an initial apparent magnitude of just 8.7 (invisible to the naked eye).

南非天文台天文学家坦波（Yusuke Tampo）通过光谱分析确认其为“经典新星”，并于6月16日将其正式命名为V462 Lupi，短短6天内，V462 Lupi的亮度飙升400万倍，视星等达到5.7，进入肉眼可见范围，截至6月25日，其亮度维持在5.0–6.0之间，南半球及北纬35°以下地区（如美国南部、地中海沿岸）可观测到。

Astronomer Yusuke Tampo from the South African Astronomical Observatory confirmed through spectroscopic analysis that it is a "classical nova" and officially named it V462 Lupi on June 16. In just six days, V462 Lupi's brightness surged 4 million times, reaching an apparent magnitude of 5.7, making it visible to the naked eye. As of June 25, its brightness has stabilized between 5.0 and 6.0, observable from the Southern Hemisphere and regions below 35°N latitude (such as the southern United States and the Mediterranean coast).
